The
Wild Iris Coffee House
It's in the
Courtyard!
This
relatively new addition to the Prescott Coffee House roster
has comfortable furniture, a beautiful little courtyard area
and
is nice and cozy.
So why didn't I know about the Wild Iris Coffee House?
Like a lot of the eateries in Prescott, the Wild Iris is a little hard
to find.
With no frontage on a major street (or as major as they get in
Prescott) it takes just a little bit of effort to find this hidden gem.
Make the
effort - it is worth it!
I
parked on Granite and strolled up the street checking out the retail
stores along the way.
When I came to where I thought the Wild Iris
Coffee house was - it was no where to be found.
Never fear! I stepped back into the street to where I could see the
sign on the building which read - "Wild Iris Coffee House In the courtyard" Well
duh!
I
entered the double doors into a charming little entry with a couple of
wing chairs, a magazine rack and art on the walls - very nice.
The Wild Iris Coffee House is a true Coffee House and everything about the
place says that they are proud of the title.
There
are older gentlemen reading the morning paper ( I'm quite sure at least
on of them must be addressed as "Major" or "Colonel"), students
busy
on their laptops and assorted other patrons reading books, chatting
with their friends or, like me, striking up a conversation with the
person at the table next door.
I ordered an Amaretto Latte($3.50) from the nice young lady at the
counter and found a spot by the window.
All I kept thinking was "Man this is nice!" As I sipped my latte, which
was very good, the stress of the day just
kind of melted away.
As usual, I asked permission to take pictures and, as usual, that
piqued everyones curiosity - what was this strange guy up too?
Julie Gorman, the owner, figured out that I was harmless and
graciously filled me in on some of the details of her operation.
The Wild Iris
Coffee House coffees are ground fresh daily (you can purchase the beans
here too), scratch made pastries and desserts are made daily on the
premises and there is a fresh quiche each day ($3.95).
If you are a tea drinker - there is a nice selection of loose leaf
teas. Smoothie fan?, Italian soda your deal? - they are available too.
The Wild Iris Coffee House pretty much meets all of the requirements
for a good Coffee house. Nice crowd, excellent coffee, friendly people,
good eats, very comfortable and, once you find the place, it's
convenient for locals and visitors alike.
Julie even does an event every now and then - so keep an eye out for those too!
Try this place. Stop in for a cup or a smoothie, or take some of the
pastries back to the office - you'll be a hero.
The Wild Iris is one of the those places that attracts you for reasons
that are hard to put your finger on, but once you are there, as you
settle down into a comfy chair with the morning paper and an oversize
cup, you know ...I really like this place!
