The Bistro
Food &
Wine in Prescott, AZ
You could live within a couple of hundred yards of The Bistro
restaurant and never know it was there. That would be too bad because
this nice little neighborhood Bistro has a lot to offer.
First, let's
clear up that all too common misconception that you can't get there
from here.
Located in an office park on the North East corner of
Prescott Lakes Parkway and Willow Lake Road, it should be
easy to find, but...
Here's how you get there - From Willow lake Rd. turn South on to
Prescott Lakes Parkway. Go South about a 1/2 block and turn East on to
Commerce Circle. Turn North into the first entrance off Commerce then
immediately left- wind around a little bit and thar she blows! - Right
on the corner next to Veritas Wines, which is another story...
Now that we have found the place, you should know a little about the
proprietors. Clyde and Lynette Woode and their 3 kids all work in this
family business. Clyde
has an encyclopedic knowledge of wine and also
runs the wine store next door. Lynette and the 3 kids prepare all of
the food, smoothies and coffees, keep the place clean as a whistle,
wait and bus tables and generally do everything that needs doing.
The decor is
French sidewalk cafe with small Wrought Iron tables in front and a few
larger tables in the back half of the restaurant.
The windows on 3 sides provide lots of light-
a nice mood enhancer in the middle of the day.
The Woodes have limited the lunch menu at their Prescott
restaurant to just a few items, but they are varied enough for everyone
to find something that suits them.
There are Salads, hearty or lite, Panini's, a really good pastrami on
sourdough and a couple of other items.
I sat in the
front of the restaurant at a small table next to the window. It was a
bright day and the rocks on the far side of Willow Lake were
practically glowing.
The Bistro is a very nice setting for a quiet business lunch or a
lovely place for a ladies lunch and, if you are looking for a teriffic

The Bistro at the Royal Hawaiian Coffee & Wine Co..
I ordered the pastrami sandwich, which came with a side of pasta salad
and 5 grapes. Yes, 5 grapes - I'm not sure what the significance of
that is, if any.
My meal came on thick sliced grilled sourdough bread, a generous
portion of pastrami, sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese.
I guess I
could wax poetically about the texture of the bread or something but
really this was just a very good sandwich.
The pasta salad was good and the 5 grapes? They were terrific!
One of the unique things about this Prescott restaurant is that you can
walk next door to the Veritas Wine store, pick out a 1/2 bottle from
Clyde's stock and bring it with you to the Bistro to enjoy with your
lunch.
I am not
advocating drinking and driving here - so use your head, a 1/2 bottle
split between two people over a leisurely lunch can do nothing but
enhance your dining experience.
If you happen to be one of the lucky one's who live within walking
distance of The Bistro - you are on your own as far as the wine goes.
Service can be a little spotty. The Woode kids do a creditable job,
most of the time, but at times the service can be a little hit or miss,
just remember they are kids who are learning. So, if you are in a big
hurry and the place is busy you are going to have to cool your jets or
come back another time.
The Bistro has, as all good bistros should, a complete line of coffee
drinks. Cappuccino, Mocha, espresso - the works, all made to order from
one of 1/2 dozen or so regional coffees which hail from, Sumatra, Java,
Bali, Ethiopia and Hawaii among others.
If you live or work in the vicinity of The Bistro it is worth the small
amount of extra effort required to stop in and try one of Lynette's
coffee concoctions. You can also pick up a bag of fresh roasted beans
while you are there and enjoy a top quality brew at home too!
Not in the mood for coffee? How about a smoothie? There are lots of
exotic flavors to choose from and they are way better at this Prescott
restaurant than what you can get from the fast food joints.
You can have dinner at The Bistro on Friday and Saturday nights or you
can arrange for a private dinner for 10 or more by giving Clyde or
Lynette a call.
I'll check out the dinner service at another time.
