Prescott Good Eats goes to Phoenix, AZ

Restaurants & Other Good Stuff

Yes, I really do get out of Prescott on occasion. The following are some of the good things in
Phoenix, AZ -the Valley of the Sun.

Restaurants

Gordon Biersch Brewery & Restaurant - there are several locations in Phoenix and the surrounding area - we tried the  18545 N. Allied Way location in Scottsdale (480-342-9860).

I like this place for a variety of reasons. The food is consistently good, the menu is extensive sporting everthing from Kobe Beef Sliders to Pizza, ribs and seafood ( GB makes an excellent burger!). They brew their own beer - always a plus in my book and, perhaps most important to many families, Gordon Biersch is kid friendly.  They treat kids, even little kids, like honored guests - not annoying distractions.

Gordon Biersch is not a fancy place - kind of industrial chic, but it is comfortable. The service is friendly and efficient, prices are reasonable and you can get anything on the menu to go.

Hours:
Monday – Wednesday 11am – 11pm
Thursday 11am – 12am
Friday and Saturday 11am – 1am
Sunday 11am – 10pm

Roy's - Hawiian Fusion Cuisine - We tried the Desert Ridge 5350 East Marriot Drive location (480-419-7697) - but there are 2 more locations in the Phoenix area.

My family has been going to Roy's for years. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is upscale and very nice and the wine list is excellent.

One suggestion- While there are steaks and pork on the menu the dishes  that really shine are seafood. The Blackened Island Ahi, one of Roy's original classics, is always outstanding and my wife's favorite.

Don't miss the appetizers - Lobster pot stickers, satay, Teppanyaki Shrimp and numerous others - good stuff!

Desserts are teriffic at Roy's too - particulary the Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle - amazing.

The service is always professional at Roy's and they are more than capable of helping with a selection from the excellent wine list.

Prices are suprisingly reasonable ( remember everything is relative!) with entrees' in the $21 to $40 range. Appetizers run from $7 to $26.50 for the signature "Canoe" for 2.

Hours:
Everyday - 5:30pm -10:00pm

The Ranch House Grille - 5618 East Thomas Road (480-946-1290).
My Son and Daughter iin Law suggested that we alll try this place - and man! I am glad we did.

The Chicken fried steak with Chili Verde Sauce is great. I don't know how you make a chicken fried steak crispy under a sauce but The Ranch House does it  - absolutely delicious.

We also had the Juevos Rancerhos - again very good  and the breakfast Buritto - good but not as good as the others.

Service is friendly and efficient, the decor gave us a kind of a small town diner feel - comfortable.

Price are very reasonable and the portions are BIG.

Breakfast and Lunch

Hours: 6am -3pm everyday

Neopolitian Wood Fired Italian - Sw corner of Loop 101 and 27th Ave in the Deer Valley Towne Center next to AMC 30 Theatres (623-879-6500).

Friendly accomodating service and the best sandwiches around - try the Prosciutto sandwich($8.50) or the Steak & Mushroom ($8.50) - both on Neopolitian style wood fired bread and both amazing!

My son tells me the pizza is great too! $9-$10 for a 10" individual size.

Lots of salads, pasta and appetizers and there is a kids menu as well.

Hours:
Monday through Saturday 11am - 9pm.  Sunday 12noon to 9pm.
