NICK-n-WILLY'S
PIZZA
PRESCOTT, ARIZONA
At Nick-n-Willy's Pizza you can take-n-bake, or have them bake it for
you.
Personally, I think take-n-bake is the only way to go! But that's just
me.
With 4 kinds of sauce - tomato, olive oil glaze, white sauce and
pesto
- you can probably find one that suits you. There are all kinds of
cheeses too - feta, cheddar, provolone, fontina and fresh Parmesan.
For a pizza joint the menu is extensive.
There are "starters" - cheese
bread, salads and wings- around 14 or so "signature" pizzas that range
from the "Aegean" that has an Olive oil glaze,
mozzarella, fresh garlic, spinach, marinated sun-dried tomatoes, feta
and oregano to -
"Nicks meat eater" with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella,
cheddar/provolone, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, seasoned beef, salami
and
choice of sausage.
Signature pizzas run from $5.99 for a personal pizza to $17.99 for a
16" family size. Extra toppings are from $.50 to $2.00 depending on the
size of the pizza.
Of course you
can build your own pizza - with all of the standard toppings plus some
not so standard like mandarin oranges or sun dried tomatoes.
Add any of the available sauces and the cheese or cheeses of your
choice and you are good to go. $4.99 to $11.99.
The Liv-n-Lite pizza is a thinner and crispier version of the regular
pizza with 1/3 fewer calories - you can get this in 5 different combos.
For dessert you can pig out on a giant chocolate chip cookie or opt for
the cinn-n-bites.
Interestingly
enough the crew at Nick-n-Willy's says that about 70% of
their patrons opt for the fully baked pizza - why is another story -
the pizzas baked on the premises are done in an electric oven
- so why not do it at home?
I stopped in
for the lunch buffet, which is a pretty good deal at $7.99 for all the
pizza you can eat, a salad and a drink.
The first pizza up was a pepperoni - it was ok. The crust didn't have a
lot of flavor, but the tomato sauce was pretty good, the cheeses were
fine and the pepperoni was standard fare.
My salad was nothing special - chopped iceberg lettuce with a variety
of chopped pizza toppings - onion, green peppers, olives
and tomato with your choice of dressings in one of those
little packets. It was fine for what it was.
The second pizza to appear for the buffet was a bbq chicken pizza.
Again, I was not blown away by the crust - although I must admit that
there are plenty of folks out there that like their crust very thin and
very crispy - I'm just not one of them. The chicken was good
and the bbq sauce was good, if a little sweet for my taste.
All in all Nick-n-Willy's is a good chain pizzeria with fresh
ingredients, freshly made dough and a friendly staff. They don't sell
pizza by the slice but the buffet is a good deal and the place has
comfortable seating.
It's a nice addition
to any neighborhood.
