Kendall's Famous Burgers &

Ice Cream

If you live in, or are visiting,  Prescott you either know, or someone is going to tell you, all about Kendall's.

This semi famous burger shop and soda fountainKendall's Famous Burgers & Ice Cream, Prescott, AZ (remember the soda shop in "Back to the Future"? - that's it) does 2 things - burgers & fries and ice cream - and it does them well.

Kendall's is not a place to go for gourmet burgers. You won't find any stuffed burgers, buffalo burgers or ostrich burgers here.

What you will find is an honest made to order 1/4# ($4.65), 1/3# ($5.15) or 1/2#  ($5.65) burger served on a fresh white, wheat, sesame or onion bun. Add a slice of cheese or some sauteed onions ($.59) and a side of fries ($1.99)- yum!

The burger itself is, by today's healthy eating standards, juicy, but by the standards that most of us grew up with - this is a very tasty burger. Pile on your own condiments- everything from jalapenos to iceberg lettuce and BBQ sauce - and you've got your very own one of a kind burger!

The fries at Kendall's are hand cut - crispy on the outside and tender in the middle - great flavor - these are what fries used to be!

The service is as good as you want it to be , because you order at the window and pick it up yourself when it's ready.

I suppose you have, by now, picked up on the whole nostalgia thing - and that is the essence of Kendall's.Kendall's Famous Burgers and Ice Cream - burger bar in Prescott, AZ The burgers are made the same way they were in the 50's, the fries are real fresh hand cut fries - not some frozen amorphous lump of re-constituted potato.

There are even baskets - remember those?- chicken, fish or shrimp ($5.99-$6.49)

The decor is vintage 50's cars, movie stars and ads (I wonder what was on the walls of burger joints in the 50's? - stuff from the 30's?) there are vinyl booths and a stand-up bar - all vintage of course- and the soda fountain is a throw back too.

You can get a cherry coke (sm $1.79, super $2.79) made the old fashioned way with maraschino syrup or you can order one of the classics - shakes, floats, sodas, sundaes or a banana split.

There are no goofy toppings, outrageous ice cream flavors (there are around 16 flavors though), or outlandish bowls, glasses or other concessions to our fad of the moment society.

Just so you know - you can get a veggie burger,Kendall's Famous Burgers & Ice Cream in Prescott, AZ chicken sandwich or a couple of other minor and, I think, grudging concessions to the health conscious among us. We'll let those pass -

Kendall's Famous Burgers and Ice Cream has done a creditable job of staying with what has worked for many years, it's probably not going to cave in now -

All the better for Prescott.

This is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner.
