Jazzys Wine
Bar
& Fine Spirits
Jazzys is a recent addition to the Wine and Spirits community in
Prescott. In the planning and remodeling phases for well over a year -
it is finally open - and that's a good thing for Prescott.
This Wine Bar is for people who are serious about wine - or would like to become so.
Set up in an an old cowboy wanna be bar, the new Jazzys required a lot of work. The result is an attractive, functional Wine Bar with features that are unique in Prescott.
The
wine bar has to be 40 feet long and is lined with comfortable
chairs that were designed for people who intend to stay awhile.
Behind
the bar is a state of the art wine serving system that injects nitrogen
into the opened bottles - preserving their fresh, just
opened taste for up to a week or so.
There
are also plenty of tables available if you don't feel like sitting at
the bar and, if you really need to relax, there are couches and a
fireplace that should help you wind down in a hurry.
With around 20 or so bottles open at any given time - there are plenty of excellent wines to try - both red and white. Tastes
run from a couple of dollars to around $4, a glass runs from $5 or so
up to the $12 range - of course the prices vary depending on which
wines are available for tasting on that day.
Jerome and Carla,
the owners, take their wines seriously and are more than willing to
help those of us who are unfamiliar with a particular wine.
Jerome says that he rarely stocks a wine that he hasn't tasted - so he can help with finding a wine that suits you.
If
you are new to wine, having a knowledgeable wine merchant is
invaluable. With some 200 or so wines in stock there are plenty to
choose from and Jerome and Carla would be happy to help you find just
the kind of wine that you like - which, after all, is the ultimate goal.
If you are a true wine lover who knows what you like, or has a favorite winery - Jazzys is the place for you.
The
Reserve Cellar, temperature, humidity and light controlled, cares for
some really outstanding bottles. Jerome has amassed nearly the whole
premium line of Turley
wines, a few bottles of Mollydooker Enchanted Path, Heitz Cellars, Hess
and a bunch of other premium wines that should please all but the
snobbiest of wine drinkers.
Other services and facilities include a wine club - that will only require the purchase of a couple of bottles a month - c limate
controlled wine lockers for rent and, as we alluded to before, a nice
stock of wine, cognac, single malt scotches, port and other
premium spirits for sale.
There are also wine accessories and gifts available. Yes, you can get a bite to eat at Jazzys.
The
menu is prepared by Mama Edda's - a pizza place next door to Jazzys -
and it is about what you would expect - individual pizza, salads, bruschetta and sandwiches.
What
we had was fine - nothing spectacular - Kayla, our server, did a
creditable job but could be a a little more attentive to her customers
wants and needs after the initial order is served.
There is
live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. The hard surfaces
throughout bounce the sound around quite a bit and as a result it can
get pretty loud , so if its busy - be prepared to talk a little louder
than usual.
When all is said and done the food and entertainment is not the point at Jazzys Wine Bar.
The wine is the point and the reason you should try Jazzys.
