Day Trips from
Prescott, AZ
Fun,
interesting, educational and... good eats too!
Sometimes
you just need to get away from the house - day trips
fill
the bill. Just enough time to get your attitude adjusted, but not
enough to make you feel guilty about all the chores that are not
getting done.
A day trip should, by definition, take no more
than 1 day - let's call it 12 hours from the time you leave the
driveway or hotel parking lot to the time you get back home - if it
takes longer than that, well, it's not a day trip!
What
kind of trips you like is obviously up to you, but I know what I like.
I like to go somewhere interesting, beautiful, educational, fun or a
combination thereof and, at the top of my list, there have to be good
places to eat.
My wife says that whenever we go on any kind of
trip that I need to be fed every two hours. Now I categorically deny
the implication but I will admit that trying out new restaurants is one
of my favorite pastimes (duh!).
So this section of
Prescott-good-eats is all about day trips. Trips that can be done
portal to portal in 12 hours. Destinations that one could comfortably
reach, explore or otherwise experience, have a meal or 2 while you're
at it and be home in time for News at 9:00pm.
Ok. We know what we are doing, but where do we go from Prescott?
As
always, I am not going to ask you to read (or trust) anyone else's take
on a destination. I will write of my own experiences - the
trip
there, road conditions, parking, facilities, guides, was it fun?, and
so on.
SOOOO... it will take a while to build up a trove of
good day trip destinations from Prescott, after all - good things take
time - I hope you agree that these will be good things.
Buckle your seat belt, be sure you have your bottle of water, don't
forget the kids - We are on our way.
Outstanding day trips
Northern AZ Wine Country - Who
knew? It's true, there are several wineries in Cornville and Page
springs and they aren't there just to trap the occasional tourist.
These are real, ambitious wineries that are producing some excellent
wines.
This is a fun trip for the adults in the family.
Williams AZ
- on historic route 66. Williams was the last small town to be
by-passed by I-40, or so they say. Really this is a small mountain town
that has been missed - not by-passed!
A little shopping, some interesting events, and at least one really good restaurant.
